Investment Tracking

How to Track Your TFSA & RRSP Performance

Most Canadians have no idea how their registered investments are actually performing. Your brokerage shows you a balance, but not whether you are keeping pace with the market. FlowVista reads your brokerage PDF and benchmarks your returns against the S&P/TSX Composite and S&P 500 so you can see exactly where you stand.

What You'll Need
Step-by-step

Upload and Analyse Your Portfolio

  1. 1

    Download Your Statement

Log in to your brokerage or group benefits portal and look for a Statements or Documents section. Download the most recent quarterly or annual statement as a PDF. The file usually contains your account type (TFSA, RRSP, etc.), holdings, market values, and book values.

Where to find it by institution:

    • RBC Direct Investing — Account Activity → Statements & Reports
    • TD Direct Investing — Accounts → Documents & Statements
    • BMO InvestorLine — My Portfolio → Statements
    • CIBC Investor's Edge — Account Management → Statements
    • Scotiabank / Scotia iTRADE — Documents → Statements
    • Wealthsimple — Settings → Documents
    • Manulife — My Account → Statements
    • Sun Life — Documents & Forms
    • Canada Life — My Account → Statements
    • Fidelity — Account Positions → Statements
    • iA Financial — My Documents → Statements
Tip If you have multiple accounts (e.g., a TFSA and an RRSP), you can upload separate PDFs for each. FlowVista will combine them into a single portfolio view.
  2. 2

    Upload to FlowVista

Open FlowVista and click the Upload CSV/PDF button. Select your statement file. FlowVista auto-detects which institution issued the PDF and parses the relevant data automatically.

The parser extracts your holdings table, account type, market values, book values, and—when available—opening and closing values from the statement period. No manual data entry is needed.

Tip The PDF never leaves your browser during detection. FlowVista processes the file client-side to identify the institution before parsing.
  3. 3

    See Your Results

After the upload completes, FlowVista shows you a full investment analysis. Here is what you get:

    Portfolio Allocation

A breakdown of your holdings by asset class, showing exactly where your money is invested.

    Benchmark Comparison

Your returns measured against the S&P/TSX Composite Index and the S&P 500, so you can see if you are keeping pace.

    Alignment Score

A single score that reflects how well your portfolio matches a diversified target allocation for Canadian investors.

    Recommendations

Specific, actionable suggestions based on your current allocation—such as geographic diversification or fee reduction.
